“We are delighted to be working with another excellent local builder on this project,” CLRS chief executive Leah Taaffe said.
“The opportunity to work with local tradespeople on this $1.6 million construction project is very exciting.”
Bourke Builders is an Echuca owned and operated construction company that has been in business in since 1994.
It was recently awarded Regional Commercial Builder of the Year at this year's North West Regional Building Awards, and previously won the Master Builders of Australia Regional Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings $1m-$3m for the Community Rehabilitation Centre at Echuca Regional Health.
Construction on the Barry St units is expected to start in September before completion by March 2022.
With the new residents set to move in shortly after, Ms Taaffe said the four units would provide tailored individual support while enabling greater independence and inclusion within the community for people with disability.
“It also gives families peace of mind, knowing that their loved one is able to access supports and amenities of their choice, within their community,” she said.
The units have been designed by EDG Space, while the construction will be managed by CERNO, which CLRS has worked with since the beginning of the project.
“As project managers, their support has enabled us to keep the project moving along to timelines we had set, even with COVID-19 interruptions,” Ms Taaffe said.
One of the Opening Doors Project's major fundraisers, Johnno's Run, is set to take place as a virtual event on Sunday, September 5.
Over the past seven Johnno’s Run events, $366,038 has been raised to support the project.
Ms Taaffe thanked the community for its support of the project to enable CLRS to continue its work providing essential support for people with disability in the region.
“We want to encourage you to continue your fundraising efforts, as every dollar makes a difference and will go directly towards building these four units for people with disability,” she said.
