Having already amassed a huge total of 317 the week prior, Echuca’s bowlers then ripped through Kyabram’s line-up on Saturday to earn an emphatic 179-run triumph.
It was Echuca’s second win over Kyabram this season, having also bested Fire Brigade in the opening round of the season.
Fire Brigade was already facing a monumental challenge to reach Echuca’s sizeable total, but things became even harder early in the run chase.
Danger man Paul Newman was dismissed for just one, clean bowled by Rylea Jones on just the seventh delivery he faced.
His replacement at the crease Brenton Campbell soon joined him back in the sheds when he too was out bowled for just two, with Jones again the wicket taker.
Jack Donnell (13) was the next batter to fall when he was caught off the bowling of Matthew Hinks, with Fire Brigade behind the eight-ball early at 3-22.
Hinks struck again when he trapped Kyabram’s top scorer Jake Gascoyne in front of the stumps for 17 to claim a key wicket.
Robert Salter (22) and Daniel Kent (18) did their best to keep up the fight, but after their wickets fell, it well and truly signalled that Kyabram’s day was all but done.
Cohan Hooper (13), Shannon Fleming (19) and Jackson Barnett (19 not out) boosted Kyabram’s score, but the visitors fell well short of their required total as they were all out for 138.
Jones played a key role for Echuca with the ball in hand, taking 3-18 with five maidens from his 12 overs, claiming the key wickets of Newman, Campbell and Kent.
His six wickets so far this season are the most among Echuca’s bowlers.
Hinks ended the day with 2-16 and three maidens, while Rory Carlile, 2-19 from 10 overs with four maidens, was Echuca’s other multi-wicket taker.
Archer Carlile and Ben Holt claimed the other two Kyabram wickets.
The smashing win sees Echuca sit in fourth spot on the McMahon Shield ladder, while Kyabram is in sixth.
