“When I was in Prep, I lived in Melbourne, and my friend Lilla had alopecia,” Charli said.
This made such an impression on Charli that she wanted to find a way she could help people with hair loss.
And what better way than growing 36 cm of her own locks to donate to another child?
Charli looked at many charities that accepted hair donations and settled on Hair With Heart.
For Charli the organisation was the right fit because of the work it does for kids with alopecia.
Hair With Heart, a program run by Variety: The Children's Charity, accepts donations of undyed, unprocessed hair of at least 35.5 cm in length to transform in to wigs for those living with alopecia, cancer, and other serious illnesses related to hair loss.
Charli has been growing her hair since she and her family moved to Moama in 2015. She and her mum, Sarah, had an original fundraising goal of $500, but have since had to increase their goal.
“We broke $2000 [on Wednesday] night,” Sarah said.
“I think we'll need to increase it again by Sunday.”
Charli will be making the big cut on Sunday at 11 am at The Venue at Moama Bowling Club. Donations can be made on the day, and at Charli's donation site at https://hairwithheart.variety.org.au/fundraisers/charliryan
