Even the awards.
Moama's Luke Hartley has been named the Bendigo Regional Apprentice of the Year by Master Builders Victoria.
“It's great to win an award like this,” he said.
“A lot of great people have won this award and have gone on to do some great things in the industry.”
Luke shoots a grin at older brother Sam, who is not only his supervisor, but won the award himself about 10 years ago.
“I fell into this business through the family, and Sam has taught me pretty much everything I know.”
And Sam will quickly tell you how well his brother has taken the lessons on board.
“Teaching people the trade is something we are really proud of, and teaching my brother is really special,” Sam said.
“He's done a great job so far, he's taken all the lessons on board and is really skilled.”
Master Builders Victoria chief executive Rebecca Casson congratulated Luke, and Kye Attwell from Benjeroop who won the Bendigo Chairperson’s Award.
“Congratulations to both Luke and Kye for their wins,” she said.
“The panel of judges commented on how strong the field of nominees were this year, so that’s a terrific sign that the future of the building and construction industry in the Bendigo region is in good hands.”
Apprentices were judged on their preparation and presentation, work experience, knowledge and career plans and attitude on and about the job.
“I think what has stood out about the job the most is the variety of work we get to do,” Luke said.
“We work on a lot of great projects, with a lot of great people in different industries and through some great businesses. There are a lot of avenues for development and continuing to grow and that really excites me.”
