“I was honestly just really excited and delighted that I got that result,” Jenna said.
“I obviously wanted to do the best that I could, but seeing the score, I didn’t expect to see such a high result.”
Jenna received a Band 6 (90-100 per cent correct) for each of her subjects undertaken in 2021: Advanced Maths, Advanced English, Extension Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
“I tried to work my best, so I could give myself the best opportunity to get into the course,” she said.
Jenna has received early entry for Animal Sciences at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, however, she is hoping to be accepted into Veterinarian Science at Charles Sturt at the end of January.
She has plans to be a veterinarian doctor, working with livestock in rural communities.
“I’m not exactly sure the age, but since I was a young girl I’ve always had a really big passion for animals, and my dream to be a vet grew from there,” she said.
“I was born in South Africa and we had a cattle farm there, and then we moved here at the end of Year 6, and we currently live on a sheep farm.
“The vet course is quite competitive, so the earliest I’ll find out about that is in a week’s time, so it’s a bit of a wait, but I’m hoping to do Veterinarian Science there—if I don’t get into Veterinarian Science, Animal Sciences is a good pathway to get into Vet.
“I don’t mind, hopefully I get into Vet, but if I have to do Animal Sciences and do an extra year, it won’t be the end of the world.”
This year MAG students achieved 18 Band 6 results and seven students were recognised on the Distinguished Achievers list for achieving the highest possible band for one or more subjects.
MAG students also collectively received 57 Band 5 (80-89 per cent correct) results across their subjects.
Jenna, along with Ashah Downie, have been put on the NESA All-Rounders Honour Roll, and Jenna also attained recognition on Distinguished Achievers List.
MAG principal Carmel Spry celebrated both Jenna’s achievement, and the results of all of the class of 2021, on Thursday.
“We are all excited to see Jenna's excellent achievement which is a result of her positive attitude and dedication,” she said.
“She is an exceptional student and we join her parents in celebrating her results.
“We are so proud of all our students, their families and teachers who have all contributed to these wonderful outcomes.
“All our students are well prepared for the next steps in their lives as young adults and we wish them all the very best.”
Jenna has also commended the hard work of her peers, particularly while completing their final years of schooling during the pandemic.
“The teachers have been really phenomenal and have given so much support and encouragement since I’ve been at Moama Grammar,” she said.
“Our cohort has worked really hard and overcome a lot of challenges particular with COVID that added a lot of extra stress to an already stressful time.
“I think everyone’s managed it really well and we’ve all worked together to bring everyone up.”
Top marks: Jenna Park was named Moama Anglican Grammar’s Dux student on Thursday.
