Kyabram Racing Pigeon Club continues to extend its range as the racing season rolls on.
This week’s Mt Hope event was the furthest afield so far this season, with competing birds released alongside Kidman Way south of Mt Hope, more than 360km from their home lofts.
Eighty-one birds representing seven trainers participated in the race, with placing based on the average speed of their journey.
Kyabram’s John Carroll claimed victory in the event, with a velocity of 1243.10 metres per minute, while Gary Rayner (1231.76) took second, and Rod Clark (1159.46) third.
It is Carroll’s first win in his eight races this season and pushes him up to fifth on the overall league point score.
The overall competition leader continues to be Phillip King, who placed sixth in this week’s event.
