A post-mortem was carried out on Monday to assist with identification, and to determine the nature and circumstances surrounding his death.
Results from the state coroner’s office were not available at the time of going to print yesterday.
Murray River Police District Detective Chief Inspector Jy Brown has confirmed, based on evidence gathered at the scene, the man is not believed to be “native to the Riverina”.
On Tuesday, police responded to information from the public to discover the body of a man, believed to be in his 40s, near the intersection of the Newell Hwy and Willows Rd.
Police implemented an extended road closure around the discovery sight, which saw traffic diverted or reduced to one lane for several hours.
Det Chief Insp Brown is still calling for the public to come forward with information that may help police with their inquiries.
“I’m appealing for any member of the public that may have passed through that location from midnight on Monday, June 16, through until midday on Tuesday, June 17 that may have captured any footage on dash cam recording,” Det Chief Insp Brown said.
“I’m urging anyone who may have recorded any footage within that vicinity to please review that footage.
“If they identify anything they think police may be interested in, can I please urge any member of the public to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.”
