During Sleep Health Week, which runs from August 11 to 15, the pharmacy is aiming to raise awareness about good night-time habits.
Sleep consultant Tania Field said the pyjamas were a conversation starter and a useful prompt for questions about a customer’s sleep-related issues.
“Would you be open to a quick chat to see if we can understand a bit more about what’s affecting your sleep?” she said, as an example.
“If they have any of the following issues: not sleeping, snoring or stop breathing, they can get a referral from a GP. We can book them in for an overnight sleep study, which is done in the comfort of their own bed.”
Pharmacists can also provide advice on sleep disorders or concerns, and Ms Field can help customers with any sleep apnoea and CPAP machine inquiries.
Ms Field said getting regular, quality sleep was essential to general health, while poor sleep could impact many aspects of daily life.
“It improves mood, memory, focus, immunity and overall wellbeing at every stage of life, not just as you get older,” she said.
The ideal amount of sleep is between seven and nine hours each night, and Ms Field recommended sticking to a regular bed and wake-up time.
It’s important to create a calm, screen-free wind-down routine, and to speak with a pharmacist or CPAP consultant if snoring, insomnia, or other sleep issues are a problem.
Sleep Health Week is an annual observance organised by the Sleep Health Foundation, and is dedicated to highlighting the critical role sleep plays in everyone’s life.
