Residents of Tocumwal and the surrounding area had the opportunity to witness an amazing performance by members of the Opera in the Country, held in the War Memorial Hall on Saturday.
Charlotte Goode, born in Kyabram, was the instigator of this group having studied at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and obtaining a Bachelor of Music (Honours).
She feels it is important to make it possible for people in the country, who may not otherwise have the opportunity, to experience opera while making use of often under-utilised town halls.
Those in attendance on Saturday evening were treated to magnificent performances by artists Johnny De Simone (baritone), Lily Flynn (soprano) and, of course, Charlotte Goode (soprano).
They were accompanied by Ronan Apcar, a very accomplished pianist, who also gave the audience an outstanding performance of his own.
A variety of items were performed from works by W.A. Mozart, Vincenzo Bellini Romeo and Juliette by Charles Gounod. However, it was the combined performance of ‘Moon River’ by Henry Mancini which touched many hearts.
Supper was provided at the end of the performance with the artists mingling with the crowd and only too happy to discuss their musical history.
Thank you to Lynsie Reid for this contribution.
