Moama (5-0) and Rochester (1-4) are the only outliers, with the rest of the teams clustered around 3-2 and 2-3, only 19 competition points separating second and seventh.
Moama’s unbeaten run was under serious threat when it travelled to Mathoura, the Steamers getting away with the win by two shots, 14-59 to 2-57.
Two of the three rinks finished drawn, as Mathoura’s Troy Mansbridge and Peter Pangrazio battled Marilyn Stephenson and Robyn Thomassen to respective ties.
That left the remaining rink to decide the match, and Jock Linehan’s Moama squad edged ahead 20-18 over Peter Holzer’s foursome.
Rochester was unlucky not to record its first win, also on the end of a two-shot margin against Deniliquin, 14-57 to 2-55.
Don Gillies stepped up for Rochy, skipping a 24-12 victory, but the efforts of Deniliquin’s Conway Bovell (25-15) and Tony Tonta (20-16) got Deni over the line.
It was a more clear-cut result in the other two matches, including Echuca’s big win over Stanhope.
Echuca prevailed in all three rinks for a 16-65 to 0-40 scoreline, James Ferrier leading the biggest win 28-13.
In the remaining match, Kyabram proved far too strong for Rich River, 16-77 to 0-44.
Joe Greco led the biggest victory for Ky, 34-11, with fellow skips Mary Greco and Bob Mason also playing well.
