This week, we visited Notre Dame College to meet the newly elected school captains and vice-captains.
School captains
Notre Dame’s 2026 school captains are Kiera Shaw and Gabe Garner, both 17, who bring unique passions and ambitions to their new roles.
Kiera is well known within the school community for her dedication to swimming — a commitment that extends to her part-time work at Aquamoves.
Leadership runs in the family, and she said stepping forward for the captaincy felt natural.
“My grandfather, my dad and my oldest sister have all been vice-captains, so it’s really nice to become a captain and carry on that legacy,” she said.

Gabe is a familiar face in the school’s music program, serving as a drummer in the band.
Next year, he’ll be trading drumsticks for a microphone — though he assures us it won’t be for singing.
With an eye to the future, Gabe plans to join the Australian Defence Force after Year 12 to study aerospace engineering.
“I did it because of the opportunity — I couldn’t find a reason not to,” he said.
He hopes to use his position to set a strong example.
“I’m trying to be that good role model that the younger students can look up to.”

Vice-captains
Notre Dame’s 2026 vice-captains are Elena Radevski and Cody Montgomery, both driven students eager to make a positive impact.
Elena, 17, spends much of her spare time dancing — from callisthenics and ballet to Latin styles.
She is passionate about science and plans to pursue it after Year 12.
“I love science and I want to continue to study it after school,” she said.
She hopes to reflect the leadership she admired as a younger student.
“I remember being in Year 7 and seeing the captains as people to look up to, so I would like to be that for the younger year levels and show it builds up your self-confidence.”

Cody, also 17, is heavily involved in local sport.
He plays football for the Shepparton Bears and umpires; after back-to-back premierships with the under-16s in 2024 and under-18s this year, he’s hoping for a three-peat in 2025.
He enjoys PE and business studies and plans to specialise in exercise physiotherapy after school.
Cody said he applied for a leadership role to grow personally and strengthen connections within the school.
“I wanted to take another step in my leadership and better myself,” he said.
“I also wanted students and teachers to be more united, and to have our voices heard.”
