Murray Life Adventure owner and author Fred Kirkpatrick has released a new book aimed at helping young people become “the best version of themselves”.

The book, titled For the best of you, draws from Mr Kirkpatrick’s years of experience working with troubled youth through his adventure programs.
“We have had a lot to do with troubled youth and Murray Life Adventures over the years,” Mr Kirkpatrick said.
“I talk about these four strategies for self-improvement and then the kids leave and I guess that they forget about them.
“So that is why I have written a book and called it For the best of you, because it is about being the best version of themselves, whatever that is.”
Mr Kirkpatrick established Murray Life Adventures about 10 years ago after building an activity area and camping ground on his farm.
“About 10 years ago, I started doing some courses and weekend away things with my brother and we really enjoyed it,” he said.
“Then, I thought our farm would be a good spot to build one.”
The venture began when an LLEN group approached him to work with disengaged teenagers.
“One of the first customers that came along was an LLEN group and they wanted me to take these disengaged teenagers once a week,” Mr Kirkpatrick said.
“I had no idea, but they were a customer, so I said yes and I really enjoyed it.”
The facility now hosts various groups including youth organisations, schools, sporting teams, corporates and families.
Activities include zip lines, giant swings, climbing walls, team building exercises and canoeing.

“Conditional responses, their habits that we form from our society, our friendship groups, our parents, our school, all give us these habits and conditional responses, and being aware of them and putting in new ones is very important,” Mr Kirkpatrick said.
“For the last 25 years, I’ve been immersed in self-improvement.
“I've read hundreds of books, been to seminars, workshops, listened to podcasts and then I've picked out these four things that resonated with me.”
The book is available on Amazon in the self-improvement section.
Mr Kirkpatrick is also partnering with Luke Dyson from CD Tiles in Echuca to launch a new rite-of-passage program for teenage boys.
The first session is scheduled for January, at Murray Life Adventures, targeting 14- to 17-year-olds attending with their father or a significant male figure.
