While the Echuca Football Netball Club won’t feel quite at home this season, with rapid progress being at Victoria Park it won’t be long until the first bounce lands back on that familiar green grass.

Big ticket items were mentioned in Campaspe Shire Council’s February 17 meeting as part of an acknowledgement quarterly update into the capital works projects.
The $13 million Victoria Park upgrade was among these projects, with the oval now completely stripped of grass and prepared for new drainage and irrigation systems.
Cr Zoe Cook said it was exciting to see the progress being made at the reserve, especially in its current form.
“It’s very cool to see something that you don’t often get to see, like a field completely dug up that is to be remade to be bigger and better,” she said.
Redoing the oval is just one stage of the project, with further upgrades planned for the Victoria Park multi-purpose centre.
Council awarded a tender for the $13 million project to Melbourne construction company Bowden Corporation in August 2025.
The upgrade aims to create a multi-purpose facility serving the entire community — accommodating regular user groups while functioning as a designated emergency relief centre.
The works are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

The entire reserve has been scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.
According to the report, local capital works projects that will be under construction over the next few months include the Victoria Park Boat Ramp, shire-wide road shoulder resheeting and flood road rehabilitation.
Almost completed projects include the Echuca Holiday Park Cabins development, plus shire-wide improvements to pool facilities, sports scoreboards, bench seats, road resealing, footpaths and gravel road maintenance.
Cr Paul Jarman said the acknowledgement of the quarterly capital works report marked the halfway mark for council’s budget.
“Ultimately the capital works is our promise to the community that when we take the rate money to deliver to the community … we by and large do a great job,” he said.
“We obviously have some things that we have to work harder on, but this council (plan) at the moment, I’m very proud of it.
“The very symbol that the capital works program represents is infrastructure and facilities for our community.”
