The new market is owned and operated by the charity Kinds of Happiness, which has established community markets to assist with community projects and support local children who might be at risk of homelessness and abuse.
Market organiser Grace Pryor noted the benefit of local markets to a community.
“Our focus is promoting and building awareness to the benefits of local family businesses and agriculture by bringing markets to an urban environment, connecting all demographics of the community and assist with minimising community challenges including isolation due to mobility, illness, minimal or no family and friends, cultural integration and various other barriers people may encounter,” Ms Pryor said.
“Our markets provide a safe, family-friendly alternative to current large commercial festival practices by providing residents access to friendly stallholders.
“Many consumers feel good about supporting local community markets.
“They also tend to distinguish the unique artisan products and produce offered at modern markets as higher in quality, more flavourful, fresher, and healthier than the mass-produced products.
“Artisan stallholders, in turn, can interact directly with their customers, building relationships and fostering customer loyalty while potentially generating greater numbers of tourists.”
The market will be held at Hopwood Gardens in Echuca’s port area on Saturday from 2pm to 8pm.
