After a more promising, if heavy, defeat to Deniliquin Rovers, Mathoura failed to get anything going in round three of Picola District Football League action.
The Timbercutters were entirely outclassed by Berrigan at Mathoura Recreation Reserve, unable to muster a goal throughout the four quarters.
The Saints piled on six majors in each of the first two periods to lead 81-1 at the half and didn’t let up after the break, adding 11 more majors to win 23.25 (163) to 2.
While Mathoura expected to struggle in another rebuilding year, Adam Bourke’s men will be disappointed with the manner of this defeat, similar to several results from 2025, as the club looks to show incremental improvement on last year’s efforts and be more competitive in games.
The Cutters’ next opportunity to show more will be in another home contest, as Picola United comes to Mathoura Recreation Reserve on Sunday.
The Blues have started the season in good touch, winning their first two fixtures.
