Moama’s Clodagh Jeffreys is riding the wave of success after being crowned state champion at the Wakeboard Victoria State Titles last weekend.
Clodagh finished first in the 10-14 girls’ division, nailing her first invert in competition.
She also won the Wakeboard Victoria 2021-22 season championship for Straight Air under-14 (male and female).
The state titles at Eildon Pondage were held over two days, with 38 riders competing across all age divisions.
Competitors are scored on the complexity, composition and execution of their tricks.
The state titles were the culmination of the wakeboard season, with five events held in the regular season in Deniliquin, Mildura, Melton and Eildon.
Clodagh was one of a group of riders representing the Echuca-Moama region at the state championships, with a handful finishing on the podium at the event.
Paul Howard (Moama) was crowned the Veteran Men’s State Champion and Megan Jeffreys (Moama) finished second in the Junior Women’s State Titles. Zak Murrell (Echuca) came third in the junior men’s division.
Lexie Howard (Moama) finished second in the 10-14 girls’ division, and she also won the 2021-22 season championship for rookies (male and female).
Thomas Jeffreys (Moama) finished top in the Wakeboard Victoria 2021-22 Season Championship for Straight Air (male and female).
The competitors will now turn their attention to the national titles which will be held in Canberra in April.
Wade Jeffreys is the president of Wakeboard Victoria. He said after the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was great the season went ahead this time round.
“It’s been very successful,” he said. “We have had tournaments in Melton, Mildura Deniliquin and Eildon.”
Mr Jeffreys lives in Moama and he said he was hoping to see an event come to Echuca-Moama in the future.
“We are trying to get a tournament off the ground in Echuca,” he said.
“We want to bring the competition side of it to Echuca because it’s one of the biggest water sports areas in the state.
“We want to try and have twice as many riders from our area competing at this level because there is a lot of kids especially in Echuca, Moama, Deniliquin and Cohuna that do a lot of wakeboarding and have some good talent.
“We’ve got some pretty talented local riders, it will be good to watch their development over the next few years.”
Mr Jeffreys thanked the Border Inn Hotel and Straightline Sports Co. for their support during the season.
