Riders on postie bikes from across the region have kicked into gear to raise $100,000 for Echuca’s new Cancer and Wellness Centre.
The Horizon Committee’s 2022 Great Postie Bike Adventure saw over 40 riders spend three days travelling through the Grampians, with funds raised going back to the local community.
“ERH is extremely grateful for this significant support from the Horizon Committee,” Echuca Regional Health interim chief executive Robyn Lindsay said.
“This will contribute directly to ensuring that the Cancer and Wellness Centre has the best available fit-out and equipment to meet our community’s needs.
“We are so glad that the event also enabled a community group to connect and have a great time during the process of fundraising.”
The success of this year’s Great Postie Bike Adventure event, and especially the efforts of the participants with sponsorship and fundraising, went far beyond expectations.
Horizon Committee event co-ordinator Dick Phillips said: “The event draws a cross section of participants with vast differences in riding experience, who have a common commitment to the cause and enthusiasm for a fun few days’ riding.
“Horizon Committee is privileged to be able to again support Echuca Regional Health, and the Cancer and Wellness Centre in particular.
“Thanks to everyone who supported riders and the event with sponsorship and donations.”
The Great Postie Bike Adventure has had a strong participant following since it started in 2017, with events at Bright and Echuca-Moama.
Previous events have supported Bendigo Health and Albury Wodonga Cancer Centre, as well as Echuca Regional Health.
Next year’s Great Postie Bike Adventure is a four-day ride through north-western Tasmania, and with commitments from this year’s riders, is expected to have a fully booked field of 50 riders and six support crew.
