One of the best small forwards in the history of the game, Betts donned his famous number 19 as he lined up for Rumba when it took on Deni Rams.
Unfortunately for Betts and Rumba, the superstar was unable to help the side to its first win of the season as it lost by 71 points to the Rams, 7.9 (51) to 18. 13 (121).
Betts was Rumba’s leading goalscorer on the day, kicking 2.6.
Despite not coming away with the win, he still provided a classic highlight to delight the bumper crowd at Rumbalara Recreation Reserve.
Betts was known as a high flyer throughout his career and he lived up to his reputation on Saturday, taking a hanger in the goal square.
To make it even more incredible, the mark itself was caught on video, including Betts indicating to the crowd just moments before his leap that he would go for a specky.
The news that Betts would take the field for Rumbalara came as a surprise, with the club confirming his inclusion in the team just two days before the game.
It might not be the last time we see Betts in a Rumba jumper this season.
“You never know,” Betts said after the game, when asked if he would make another appearance.
The superstar footballer retired from the AFL last season after playing 350 games for the Blues and Crows and kicking 640 goals.
In his first year of retirement, Betts has been a presenter on Fox Footy and also works as a development coach for the Geelong Cats.
Betts won the AFL goal of the year award a record four times during his career, in 2006, 2015, 2016 and 2019.
He was a three-time All-Australian and was his side’s leading goal scorer six times in his career.
