Jack Matthews finished second at the Rebellion Muay Thai Roots 18: Kaya eight-man eliminator last weekend, coming up just short in the final.
Matthews won his first two bouts on Saturday to reach the championship fight, but lost to Connor Goodman by unanimous decision.
It was a courageous effort from Matthews, who trains out of Wickham’s Martial Arts Centre in Echuca.
The 19-year-old turned professional last year and had just four pro bouts under his belt before competing in three fights in one night on Saturday.
It was a knockout event, with the winner of each fight advancing while the loser was eliminated. Each bout consisted of three, three-minute rounds.
Matthews won his round one match-up against Josh Lim before defeating Steve Morales in his second bout to reach the final.
Despite not coming away with the championship belt, Matthews still put in a phenomenal effort.
He won’t have to wait long to get back in the ring, with his next fight on Saturday, July 8.
Matthews will be fighting on the same night as his trainer Kiw Eikkasit at the Hardcore Promotions event in Melbourne.
