THE easing of restrictions on the NSW-Victoria border are set to come into effect on Friday, September 4.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian will be in Albury today where she is expected to announce the finer details of the border zone extension from 2.5km to 50km on either side of the border.
The changes will come into effect at 12.01am with residents required to apply for a new border resident permit.
“We are working hard to reduce the angst and frustration caused by this border closure,” Ms Berejiklian said.
The new permit will allow a resident within the border zone to enter NSW to obtain necessary goods or services, for care or other compassionate reasons and to attend work or obtain education services.
A NSW resident living in the border zone can enter Victoria only for the reasons stated on the permit and must not travel any further than the border region.
A Victorian resident living in the border zone must only travel into NSW for the reasons listed on the permit, must not travel to any part of NSW outside the border zone and if they have travelled to Greater Melbourne or a COVID-19 area of concern in the previous 14 days.
Ms Berejiklian is expected to speak at a press conference at 12pm.
