Six of the eight coaching roles for the upcoming junior pirates representative season have been announced, with Bec Kellett, Kaine Anderson, Jaz Ryan, Luke Carnegie, Chris Hutton and Jack Lees to be at the helm
Of this season’s coaching crew, Luke Carnegie is a big-name recruit, with the former NBL player to not only act as the under-16s coach, but also the association’s director of coaching.
“We have appointed Luke Carnegie as our director of coaching this year,” EMBA president Lisa Baker said.
“We haven’t had one before, we are very excited for him to share his expertise. He is involved with the state academy program and is very, very knowledgeable.
“With Luke here that is just going to add an extra layer for all our coaches.”
Carnegie will help create a style of play philosophy for EMBA that will be implemented at the association from under-12s right through to the senior CBL level.
The former NBL player spent two seasons with the Sydney Kings, and will bring a wealth of experience to the role.
The junior representative season will start off in September with the Echuca tournament, a three-day event which will be held on the grand final long weekend.
Subsequent tournaments will be held in Swan Hill, Wangaratta, Shepparton, Bendigo and Wodonga.
Trials for the junior representative teams will kick off soon, with the first sessions to be held on Tuesday, July 12 and Wednesday, July 13.
Baker said the trials were open to anyone who is hoping to play. Those trying out are required to attend at least two of the three sessions to be eligible for selection.
