The Magpies sit in fifth spot on the ladder and will face a determined sixth-placed Lions side looking to cement their own status as a finals team.
Coming off the league-wide bye, the Pies will be hoping to build on their strong performance against Deniliquin last time out.
The Magpies gave the undefeated Rams their biggest challenge of the season a fortnight ago — the Pies lead in the fourth quarter, but some costly turnovers saw them fall 43-42 in a thriller.
Moama coach Lisa Drysdale said she was pleased with a number of aspects of their game against Deni.
“I’m still smiling about that game, it was such a good performance,” Drysdale said.
“It speaks volumes about our confidence and knowing we can keep our head in a very intense game.
“We were a lot stronger in the goal circle and we were patient — we didn’t waste the ball in our attacking end, we were very patient which was pleasing.”
Moama is four games clear inside the top six with six rounds remaining, and a win against the Lions would all but guarantee it a finals spot.
That security will come in handy — Moama will be forced to tweak its starting seven in the lead up to finals with some key players out for the season.
Charlotte Sheldon and Alex Daley have both announced they are pregnant, and they won’t return to the court again this season.
“You can’t really replace Charlotte and Alex,” Drysdale said.
“They are amazing players and amazing club people.”
With Fallon Lieschke out with a hand injury and Liv Taverna sidelined after a dislocated knee, the Magpies will be relying on their strong squad depth in the games ahead.
Youngster Sienna Agg is now a permanent member of the A-grade squad, while Charlotte Groves’ addition has also bolstered the team.
“We will use the support of our B-graders until Fallon and Liv are back from injury and we have our full nine back,” Drysdale said.
“The depth in B-grade is astronomically good, they have been amazing in their support and help.
“With Sienna in the squad, it’s great to see the strength of the juniors coming through to the senior team.”
Win or lose, the Magpies will be celebrating after the game with Moama holding its Ladies Day on Saturday.
