A win would have seen Rochy move into sixth after Seymour’s surprising loss to the Shepparton Swans, but the Tigers were simply outmatched by the Eagles at Moon Oval.
With stats from GVL Data, we can see just how Mansfield’s big win played out.
The Eagles were lethal by foot — they not only had 63 more kicks than the Tigers, their kicking efficiency was also 20 percentage points higher, 71 per cent to 51.
With a kick to handball ratio of 2.56, Mansfield was able to cut the Tigers apart.
Mansfield’s kicks were clearly hitting their target — not only was the Eagles’ kick efficiency vastly higher, but they also had a massive 57 more marks than Rochester, 112 to 55.
Mansfield also did a better job of cutting off Rochester’s delivery, snagging 21 intercept marks to 11.
In attack, the Eagles scored on 56 per cent of their inside 50s, a significantly higher rate than Rochester’s 39 per cent, while also kicking far more accurately, 17.10 to 8.12.
While Rochester had the advantage in the ruck, with 37 hit-outs to 18, it was unable to capitalise, with Mansfield collecting more clearances, 28 to 26.
