Council urged to lead by example on climate action
Declaring a Climate Emergency, as multiple organisations globally have done, is a key action the Shire of Campaspe can include as part of the Environment Strategy.

The council has an opportunity to lead by example.
It confirms the council agrees with climate science.
Council decisions will be made within a framework of positive climate action.
It tells deniers their time is up.
We no longer should be distracted by their dubious personal opinions and watering down of action.
Their minority view dominated the last 30 years.
Please step aside as inaction brings no rewards.
Cr Zorko and the others opposing a meaningful Environment Strategy should let the other councillors produce the strongest call for action possible.
A recent survey found 76 per cent of young people do not see a bright future for themselves.
The role of the current generation is to ensure a better future for coming generations.
Not just humans, but all life on this planet.
The Federal State of the Environment report revealed we are failing.
Together we can turn this around.
Droughts, heatwaves, bushfires, crop losses, lives lost, floods etc have always happened.
It’s the unprecedented, unusual ones we see now that challenge our resources and resilience.
Global warming makes things up to 40 per cent worse.
The United States drought is the worst in 1200 years, dams that provide irrigation, town and hydro water are going dry.
This could happen here.
The Hume dropping to a point where no irrigation water was available can happen.
Give feedback to the strategy.
There are plenty of ideas to increase wildlife and reduce nasty emissions the council can lead on.
Come 2050 we do not want to point at the deniers and warming supporters to say ‘you caused this’.
We want to stand with the children and say ‘we gave you a brighter future.’

Neighbourhood houses play a vital role in our communities
Victoria’s 401 neighbourhood houses play a vital role in helping locals access everything from food hampers through to training and education courses.
They are a meeting point and a connection to the community, yet the future of as many as 27 neighbourhood houses is now in jeopardy due to funding uncertainty from the Andrews Labor Government.
This is despite a concerted effort three years ago by the sector — supported by The Nationals — to secure additional funding of $5.4 million annually for the Neighbourhood House Coordination Program.
This funding was used for core service provision purposes, with staff placed on permanent contracts and programs established using what people believed was secure, long-term funding.
To their shock, Victoria’s neighbourhood houses were later told the funding was a once-off, meaning programs may be axed, some staff may no longer have an ongoing position and could mean the closure of 12 rural neighbourhood houses.
Those neighbourhood houses that wouldn’t be forced to close could still be in a precarious situation, being unable to attract staff and having existing services impacted.
Ongoing funding would mean certainty for every neighbourhood house, and the diverse community so dependent on each one of them, that has been short-changed by Labor.
Neighbourhood houses deliver an incredible range of services in the community, but it’s also the social aspect of going to a neighbourhood house, they are a vital cog in our community.
Remember this November how the Andrews Labor Government turned its back on our communities as the cost of living continues to skyrocket.
Only a Liberal and Nationals Government will ensure our neighbourhood houses receive the long-term funding they need.

Measures are ineffective
Unprecedented and ineffective enforcement measures are being implemented in schools across Australia to combat youth vaping, threatening to distress and alienate students.
The onus is being placed on our teachers, and the government is doing little to combat the problem.
Education campaigns are only perpetuating wildly incorrect myths about vaping.
We are failing the next generation, and the government must urgently step in to effectively combat youth vaping.
