Beacon Breakfast an inspiration for next generation of leaders

A RECORD 90 people attended the Beacon Breakfast on Friday.

Hosted by 19 new Beacon leaders from Echuca-Moama’s five schools, it was the foundation’s first community event this year to thank sponsors and encourage new support.

‘‘Because we’re a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on sponsorship,’’ Beacon co-ordinator Cheryl Sweeney said.

The tasty breakfast was catered by Radcliffe’s and featured three guest speakers — 2018 Beacon leaders Kaitlyn Bulmer and Annabel Lee and 2016 Beacon leader Mia Oberin.

‘‘Annabel and Kaitlyn shared about how beneficial the program is for all participants,’’ Ms Sweeney said.

‘‘And Mia — who is now in year 12, has joined the local Youth Action Group and has just been overseas with the United Nations — encouraged local young people and spoke about how being a Beacon leader was a stepping stone to where she is today.’’

Echuca Moama Beacon Foundation has a record 420 students taking part this year, with the anticipated Careers Expo just around the corner.
