Bluey, a blue heeler recognised as the world’s oldest dog by the Guinness Book of World Records, has been brought back to life in a mural near the local swimming pool.
Rochester Business Network (RBN) member Kate Taylor said they are excited to have John on board this great project.
‘‘John is well recognised in the art world and with his recent works at the Rochester Mural Festival,’’ she said.
‘‘We are thrilled to gain someone of his calibre in our town.’’
RBN president Glenda Nichol said this mural will be a great addition to the community.
‘‘We are so very excited... We are already very proud to be part of the Silo Art Trail and this gives our visiting public something else to see whilst in Rochester,’’ she said.
The heeler lived with local Les Hall from 1910 and lived for an amazing 29 years and five months before he was put to sleep in 1939.
There has been a lot of excitement around this legendary pup, but Rochester local Edna Staley has an extra special connection.
‘‘Bluey was my father’s dog... I am so proud that this mural is going up especially at the pool where I go past every day,’’ she said.
Glenda encourages anyone and everyone to visit Bluey and see what he’s all about.
‘‘We want to invite all Victorians to come to our town, see the artwork of Bluey, visit our silos and our murals, have a coffee or a beer and check out the other great things we also have to offer in Rochester,’’ she said.
Work on the mural started last Tuesday and is set to be completed this week.
