And tomorrow, 15 of the Echuca-Moama Rockets and their buddies will head down to Marvel Stadium to take part in the Auskick half-time game.
Thanks to the club covering the $1470 cost of the bus for them and their buddies — 13 and 14-year-olds from Moama, Echuca United and Echuca junior football clubs.
‘‘It’s a fantastic club and it is a great opportunity for the kids and their families,’’ Echuca-Moama Apex Club president Ben Hearn said.
‘‘We really wanted to assist in meeting some of the costs associated with this trip and as such we passed a motion to cover the return trip.
‘‘These funds have been generated by Apex performing a variety of service jobs throughout the year.’’
These kind of initiatives make volunteering worthwhile, according to Mr Hearn.
As a fully volunteer organisation, the club runs a variety of fundraising events throughout the year, allowing it to donate funds to a range of organisations, families or individuals experiencing hardship or needing funds.
It also carries out service work and in recent years has been running a successful Apex Golf Day and The Apex Gift sprint race.
‘‘In the past 12 months, we have raised just over $20,000, contributing these funds back into the community as well as performing 650 hours of service work,’’ Mr Hearn said.
With its annual board handover to be held later this month, Mr Hearn is hoping to attract new members.
‘‘We strongly believe that volunteering is still the lifeblood of regional communities,’’ he said.
‘‘We feel Apex is a fantastic fit for people looking to socialise, meet new people, make new friends, give back to the community in which we live, have the ability to support other individuals and groups in our community by completing projects or offering financial assistance, get more insight into what is happening around us, learn new skills and have the opportunity to set examples and be leaders in our community.
‘‘Members get a real sense of achievement by making a positive difference to our community, lots of laughs and strong camaraderie.’’
The club has 21 members — men aged between 30 and 45, from diverse backgrounds, including farmers, tradesmen, professionals, teachers, self-employed and from management and hospitality industries.
‘‘The club allows members the opportunity to pursue leadership positions, work on public speaking, complete projects as a team and enjoy socialising at meetings and family friendly functions throughout the year,’’ Mr Hearn said.
‘‘We’re well aware of the importance of a good balance between work and family life and the club allows members to maintain flexibility in relation to the time they wish to commit to being involved in the club.’’
The club meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month at different venues, and includes guest speakers and different programs.
