But this weekend, they get to show off their skills on their own ground, in front of an adoring home crowd.
Round two of the Northern Conference of the FIDA (Football Integration Development Association) league will take place on Sunday at Echuca South Recreation Reserve, with teams from Shepparton, Bendigo, Wodonga and Wangaratta all joining the Rockets in the tournament.
Rockets coach Mark McGann said his side was excited about running out on their home ground.
‘‘Our guys really love playing at home,’’ he said.
‘‘They love playing in front of family and friends, as well as having their friends from other clubs come up to the town.’’
The five sides involved will play a round robin tournament, giving each club the opportunity against one another.
‘‘It’s a full day of football and a wonderful opportunity for the players to get out on the park and play the game.’’
So far, 2019 has been a major success for the club.
‘‘We’ve been able to increase our numbers, both in the senior side and in the Auskick program,’’ McGann said.
‘‘We’ve got about 20 in both programs, which is fantastic, we’re always happy when we have a few new faces running around . A few new faces is fantastic for the side.’’
Foundation parent and club secretary Suellen Betts said the weekend would simply be about the enjoyment of the players.
‘‘It’s all about fun,’’ she said.
‘‘It really is about our players getting out there and having a kick and showcasing to the community what our club is about.
‘‘Our players are loving their footy this year. They played really well in the first round of the season in Wodonga and we think they will continue to have a good year in the remaining rounds of the season.’’
Rockets president Flip Evans said he would love to see the community not only supporting the Rockets on Sunday, but those who help keep the club running.
‘‘We have a lot of wonderful volunteers who are a part of this club,’’ he said.
‘‘They do some incredible work with organising things and making sure the program runs smoothly, so not only is the round robin an awesome opportunity to support our players, but also to support the people who make our football club run.’’
Games begin at Echuca South from 10am on Sunday, with the GV Stars and Bendigo Suns playing the opening contest.
The Rockets first match is at 10.30am, as they take on the Wangaratta Merriwa Magpies.
