After two losses in a row against Mount Pleasant and North Bendigo, LBU’s flying start to the season looked to have been a false start — but back-to-back victories against Elmore and Heathcote now has them back on song.
‘‘It’s important to get another win and solidify our position on the ladder,’’ president Colin Bacon said.
‘‘With the competition being so tight, each win is as important as the next.’’
In the first half, the Cats were well below their best as they struggled to establish their dominance against a winless Heathcote side who elected to throw men behind the ball.
A stern half-time message from coach Kahl Oliver sparked the visitors into action as they slammed on eight goals to none in the third term.
‘‘Once the boys began to take their loose men out of the game it made a world of difference,’’ Bacon said.
‘‘We managed to get our running game going and Heathcote simply couldn’t keep up.
‘‘The second half was much more like the footy we know we can play.’’
LBU will have the opportunity to create some breathing space between themselves and fellow finals contenders Colbinabbin when they host the Hoppers on Saturday.
Currently, both sides sit at seven wins and two losses with only a game difference to fourth placed Mount Pleasant — and a win could be big for both side’s double chance hopes.
‘‘Over the years it’s always been a close game between the two sides,’’ Bacon said.
‘‘I believe the boys will have a mental edge after getting a win against them earlier in the year.
‘‘We just want to continue building towards our goal of winning a premiership.’’
