With just one win to their name, the weekend’s eight-goal loss to the previously winless Heathcote mattered for very little as Anna Palmer returned to the court for the first time in several weeks.
Immediately Palmer’s presence was felt as the Cats looked much more assured when she was on the court.
‘‘Anna definitely has a calming influence on the rest of the team,’’ coach Rylea Cuttriss said.
‘‘She adds a wealth of knowledge to our team and everyone walks a bit taller when she is on the court. We’ve certainly missed her.
‘‘Having Anna back is arguably our biggest win this season.’’
In previous weeks, LBU have performed well below par on the defensive end but against Heathcote they ensured they brought their best — even if it wasn’t enough.
Led by defensive duo Ally Todd and Bec Eade, the Cats fought for every ball not allowing the home side the time and space they desired.
‘‘Ally and Bec’s desire to win the ball back was outstanding,’’ Cuttriss explained.
‘‘It was pleasing to see their teammates follow their lead. Unfortunately we just weren’t able to produce the same execution at the attacking end.
‘‘We struggled to get the ball through mid-court at crucial times.’’
Next week’s task against Colbinabbin looks an impossible task on paper, but LBU say they are more than up for the fight.
‘‘We always need to have a lot of respect for Colbo because they’re one of the top teams in the competition,’’ Cuttriss said.
‘‘Our goal is to enjoy our game and continue to play for one another.’’
