Qualifier is rich in talent

RICH RIVER Golf Club will make history this weekend when it hosts a NSW Open regional qualifying event for the first time.

The event will pit local players against some of the lowest handicap amateurs ever seen at the club.

The gross winner of the two-day event will earn automatic entry into the NSW Open which is set to be held later this year, while the top two over-50 players will earn a place at the NSW Senior Open.

Promising local juniors Blair Christie and Aaron Loader will be keen to test themselves against a strong field.

Meanwhile, club captain David Pearson is hoping to continue his recent form to earn a place at the Senior Open to be held at Thurgoona Golf Club.

The field also includes 15 players on a plus handicap or better, something never seen at Rich River.

Players will have the chance to win a 2019 Mitsubishi GLS 4x4 Triton Dual Cab if they score a hole-in-one on the 16th hole during Saturday’s first round.

The nett winner from each event will also earn a place for themself and two friends at the NSW Open Pro-Am.

Play will begin at 7.30am on Saturday and 8.00am on Sunday.
