Australia’s next generation of stars shone brightly against Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand with a 3-0 series victory — after the first two games of the series were abandoned due to poor weather.
The inclement weather proved to be a blessing in disguise for Murphy who missed the first two games through injury.
When he did return, the off-spinner made his presence felt with 3/26 from nine overs in the fourth game of the series, tearing through the Kiwis’ top order.
‘‘To do well against some high quality cricketers is always pleasing,’’ Murphy said.
‘‘Playing against guys you don’t know much about always makes for a difficult challenge because you’re not always sure what is going to work.
‘‘The experience is something I’ll never forget. It has certainly given me plenty of confidence moving forward.’’
Murphy will now turn his attention to a trip to India next month, where the 18-year-old will feature in a touring party with fully fledged internationals.
‘‘Playing in another country’s conditions is an amazing opportunity,’’ he said.
‘‘Australia have a history of struggling on the sub-continent in the past, but spinners usually perform well.
‘‘It gives me a great chance to broaden my skills and learn more about getting strong players of spin out.
‘‘I’ll definitely be absorbing everything like a sponge.’’
