Wangaratta Rovers 36 defeated by Yarrawonga 50
The A grade side have managed to continue their successful start to the season and showed absolute class during their win against Wangaratta Rovers over the weekend.
The attack end was outstanding once again. Laura Davis, Laura Irvine and Sharni Hazelman used their speed, and were relentless in attack.
Bridget Cassar was awarded best on court for her fabulous performance in the goal circle. Bridge provided the attackers with endless opportunities and was able to superbly finish off each play by shooting the goal.
The team showed how much experience and depth they have by bringing Sarah Senini on in the 3rd quarter.
With some key positional changes and Sarah’s cleverness this allowed the side to increase their lead even greater.
It was another great game for the defenders, as they continue to reap the rewards by working together and creating turnovers from their ongoing defensive pressure.
A grade continues to hold top spot on the ladder after their 14-goal lead.
It will be an exciting and tough match this weekend against Corowa.
Best: Bridget Cassar and Laura Davis.

Wangaratta Rovers 25 defeated by Yarrawonga 57
B Grade Pigeons defeated Wangaratta Rovers 57 to 25, but in truth, the scoreboard did not reflect the tough hit out in the scorching autumn heat.
In the first quarter, the game was pretty much goal for goal and nail-biting stuff it was. Spectators had to hold their breath and stand a certain way otherwise it could very well contribute to a missed opportunity which could cost either side the game.
Second quarter, Pigeons star WD Jedda Nolan thieved a handful of spectacular intercepts which were converted into amazing goals by both forwards Angela Schofield and Maddy Kennedy- an absolute power duo.
Angela is also proudly representing the team on the Hot Shot’s leader board and she certainly earned her place there this week.
Third quarter can either make or break the game. But for Pigeons on this day, it certainly made it.
Teamwork, talk and defensive pressure seemed to step it up another notch. Rover errors were forced and tips, touches and loose balls were snatched.
Liv Lovell, Yarrawonga’s absolute backbone of the side showed she wasn’t just a hot mama, but an absolute champion - and great match up for a tall accurate Rover’s shooter.
Liv was also awarded the very well-deserved players player of the day.
Last quarter started off solid, however towards the end legs from both sides grew tired as the final whistle drew near.
Although the third quarter kidnapping was too great for Rovers to take back the game.
Coaches award went to the crowd favourite, Jedda Nolan, who left no gas in the tank and as said above was an absolute game changer. Well done all!
Next week sees the girls taking on Corowa-Rutherglen, who have had a strong start and sit second on the ladder.

Wangaratta Rovers 51 defeated Yarrawonga 47
Wang Rovers came out firing on the weekend throwing their bodies at every contest.
The Pigeons mid court with Cait Dwyer, Zoe Jones, Bree Bailey and Amy Barnes put up an amazing fight in very hot conditions.
They combined well and kept cool under pressure providing plenty of drive and accurate feeding.
Dee Moon and Eliana Martin gaining momentum each week converting at a high accuracy rate.
The young guns kept several Rovers defensive combinations on their toes mixing up their style and sharing the load.
Lots of rotations in defence this week kept the pressure on an experienced Rovers attack end. Macey Hicks just keeps getting better each week with numerous turnovers, combining well with Erin Rees and Sarah Govan who rebounded strongly all day.
Despite a great comeback C grade ended up losing by 4 goals to Rovers who will be up there come finals later in the year.
The Pigeons girls are still sitting on top of the ladder for now.
Let’s see what they can do against the runners up from last season Corowa Rutherglen next weekend.
Awards: Macey Hicks and Bree Bailey
