The Kyabram Community and Learning Centre has opened a depot at the Men’s Shed, allowing residents to recycle up to 500 containers at once for a refund of 10¢ each.
The new scheme rolled out across Victoria on November 1, offering refunds for cans, cartons and bottles.
Towns with a population above 750 are eligible to have a depot.
All Kyabram residents have to do is download the app ‘Vic CDS North’, go to 117 Albion St, have the team count the containers and then the payment will be processed.
KCLC chief executive Jen Savage said she was excited about the potential of the depot and was looking for staff to help with demand.
“We can only take smaller loads with 500 containers,” Mrs Savage said.
The KCLC Men’s Shed also encourages groups to use the space and help with the new scheme.
“We would like to share the manager fee of 3¢ if you come and help out,” Mrs Savage said.
“We are open Monday through to Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday 8am till noon and Sunday 9am till 1pm.”
Foott in Shepparton has opened a depot, which is proving to be a massive hit with the locals. Kids, in particular, are collecting bottles to earn extra pocket money.
“Please have the app ‘CDS Vic North’, as it makes the process much quicker,” Mrs Savage said.
“We encourage everyone to look at our Facebook and website.”
A date is to be confirmed for the grand opening of the Kyabram depot; however, it is accepting containers now.
