As uncertain times continue, Edward River Council Mayor Norm Brennan said now was the time people could help make a difference to the trajectory of the virus and keep the community safe.
‘‘The message is clear — stay home,’’ Cr Brennan said.
‘‘Right now, everyone needs to stay home unless they are going to work, education, shopping for food or essentials, seeking medical care, or exercising.’’
Under new Federal and NSW Government guidelines, if residents do go out, they must stay at least 1.5 metres away from other people at all times.
Public gatherings have also been limited to two people, excluding members of the same household or for work or education.
The new restrictions came into effect on March 31 and are legally enforceable.
Cr Brennan noted the Easter long weekend was a concern and plans would have to change to ensure the community abided by the new Coronavirus safety measures.
‘‘Easter is normally a busy weekend in the Edward River region with lots of interstate visitors in town to celebrate with friends and family, but this year things will have to change,’’ Cr Brennan said.
‘‘Residents are urged to cancel all visits from friends and family until further notice, including travel plans over the Easter long weekend.
‘‘We love welcoming visitors to our region, but right now we have to put the safety of our community at the forefront.
‘‘Currently, there are no recorded cases of COVID-19 in the Edward River region. We’re asking community members to follow the new restrictions to ensure we can keep it this way.’’
