School is seeking support for funds

By Alex Gretgrix

MATHOURA Public School is urging NSW residents to help it get funding for new shade sails through the My Community Project initiative.

After the recent upgrade of the school’s play equipment, the next step is to make the area as safe as possible for students.

‘‘The importance of this project is paramount, the provision of sun protected play-spaces for the children of our community is essential,’’ Mathoura Public School principal Janice Eddy said.

‘‘The success of our application will allow year round play by enabling access to the outdoor play/learning spaces without having to factor in extreme weather conditions,’’ Janice said.

Making the area safer would not only benefit the students at the school, but also other community members who use the facilities.

‘‘Mathoura Public School takes part in the NSW Government’s initiative called Share Our Space where our school grounds are open during the school holidays for the whole community to enjoy the use of our playground and sporting fields,’’ Janice said.

But the school needs the local community’s help.

In order to secure funding, residents must rank the three local Moama and Mathoura projects as first, second or third preference in order for them to get enough points in their electorate.

‘‘We are very hopeful that the wider community will support our project and our school by placing a vote for us. Community support is so important, as the community vote is the deciding factor in which projects receive funding,’’ she said.

NSW citizens can vote by visiting service.nsw.gov.au/campaign/my-community-project

You need a My Service NSW account and Medicare number to vote, which closes on August 15.
