Girl power at Riverboats

By Alex Gretgrix

GOING from three solo artists to a band can be a disaster or a success. Thankfully for Dyson Stringer Cloher, the latter is true.

Mia Dyson, Liz Stringer and Jen Cloher have known each other for years and have joined forces from time to time, but now they have new music to share in the twin towns.

And for Jen, Echuca is a familiar place, not just as a music venue.

“I'd been to Echuca before, a few times, and it's just beautiful,” she said.

“Last time I was there I went kayaking down the river as well as a few other tourist types of things.

“I think I may have played there many, many years ago, so I'm excited to be back at Riverboats.”

But of course it's the music that brings them together in this beautiful town.

“We released an album together last year and we're excited to be bringing that new music to the festival,” Jen said.

“We'll be playing as a band this time, a super group of sorts, and it will be great to play songs we all wrote together and songs that mean a lot to us.”

But these seasoned musicians have experience on stage together, something that will bring a bit of spice and experience to Riverboats.

“Back in 2013 we recorded a small, three track EP and completed a 40-date tour of Australia,” she said.

“We were going to do an album soon after, but we all became busy with our own solo careers, but now we've finally done it.

“Although it has been a long time between the EP and album, it's one of those things where we were able to come back together and work like no time had passed.”

These three ladies blend their skills seamlessly and are sure to bring a rocking sound to the Riverboats stage.

“Mia and Liz are both fantastic singers so harmonies are a real centre of what we do. I love how our voices sound when we come together,” Jen said.

“They're also both incredible guitarists and are probably known for that just as much as their song writing.

“It's a rock and roll show and for us as women. It's great that we're able to be loud and proud and play the music we love.”

Dyson Stringer Cloher will be taking to the stage on Friday night from 8pm.
