MumSafe, a network of pre- and postnatal trainers, is part of a movement to get more Australians, more active, more often, starting with mums in our community.
Locally, MumSafe trainer and certified pre-and postnatal coach Talia Moore, is delivering personalised training for women from pre-pregnancy through to menopause, from her private studio in Moama.
“I work with pelvic health physios, they would provide me with recommendations, and I incorporate those into exercise programs for women,” Talia said.
“I help women exercise with things like pelvic floor weakness or pelvic organ prolapse and help them exercise in a way that isn’t just safe, but can help minimise and overcome symptoms.”
The program seeks to break away from conventional exercise methods.
“We are stuck in this ‘six-week, eight-week challenge', go hard, go home injured and it is all too difficult, it all goes out the window, and then we do it all again in six months,” Talia said.
“Instead of training for longevity and training to feel good and training to be strong and do everything that you need to do.
“I think for a mum, there is not enough support for very common things like leaking with exercise, ab separation and prolapse, which are things that pop up, not just postpartum, but menopause is a massive risk factor, and these women aren’t being supported.
“I am trying to change the narrative, at least for women in my community and MumSafe is trying to change the narrative as well.”
Talia stresses the vital role of specialised training for women at different life stages.
“Exercise can make your symptoms infinitely worse, but it can also make your symptoms infinitely better,” she said.
“I would encourage women to be curious about their bodies and to listen to changes and to take it upon themselves to support their health and investigate things, because not all trainers are created equal.”
