Today, that same trusted formulation continues to support farmers who demand proven, uncompromising mollusc control as part of their integrated production programs.
Sundew Crop Solutions manufactures Mesurol Snail and Slug Bait locally in Australia, maintaining the performance standards growers have depended on across citrus, grapes, strawberries, pome fruit, stone fruit, ornamentals, cereals, oilseed crops, pastures, artichokes, brassicas, vegetables, head lettuce, potatoes, sunflowers and common garden areas.
Based on the active ingredient methiocarb, Mesurol remains the only bait formulation of its kind in Australia.
Sundew Crop Solutions chief executive David Priddy says the product’s longevity in Australian horticulture speaks volumes about its field performance and grower confidence.
“This is a bait which has supported Australian growers for more than 27 years across a wide range of high-value crops,” David says.
“When you’re protecting fruit, vegetables or vines where cosmetic damage can mean serious financial loss, you need a control option that works quickly and works reliably,” he adds.
Formulated as a Group 1A molluscicide/insecticide, Mesurol is engineered for long-lasting performance, even under adverse weather conditions as slug breeding peaks in winter and snail pressure intensifies through spring.
Mesurol delivering fast, reliable knockdown when crop protection matters most.
Its mould-resistant formulation and durability in damp environments make it particularly suited to horticultural regions where moisture and canopy cover create ideal mollusc habitats.
Among its key advantages, Mesurol delivers high effectiveness, with a single pellet capable of killing as many as 30 snails.
It provides quick and certain knockdown, with snails unable to recover once dosed.
For more than 27 years, Australian vegetable and fruit growers have relied on Mesurol to control snails and slugs.
The formulation also contains Bitrex, a bittering agent designed to deter non-target consumption and is supplied in the familiar 10kg cartons and 150kg steel drums preferred by resellers and larger farming operations.
David says consistent availability and local manufacturing were important factors for Australian agriculture.
“Having Australian-made product gives our resellers and growers confidence in continuity of supply,” he says.
“We understand the seasonal pressures our customers face. Snail and slug outbreaks don’t wait, and growers need to know their control tools are ready when required.”
In response to industry demand, Sundew has also secured Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority approval under permit PER94352 for the use of Mesurol in truffle orchards for the control of slugs and snails — an example of the product’s relevance in emerging and premium crop segments.
As part of Sundew’s expanding portfolio of APVMA-approved solutions, Mesurol sits alongside locally manufactured products designed to meet the needs of Australian agriculture, including SAS Pro Fipronil Ant Killer, a cost-effective treatments for nuisance and red imported fire ants, and Chariot 150 SC indoxacarb suspension concentrate insecticide with in-formulated wetter technology for key horticultural pests such as codling moth and white butterflies.
For agricultural resellers and growers alike, Mesurol represents a familiar and proven option, a bait which has long been part of Australia’s horticultural toolkit and continues to deliver the level of control demanded by crops where quality, yield and market access are critical.
