Edna Toma, a woman who has spent many years as a volunteer, was awarded the Cohuna Lions Club Community Award for her contributions to the community.
For many years, Edna worked within the social service support group and volunteered her time there and around her home town.
From driving buses to lending a hand at day care, she's done it all.
It's also said she makes one of the best cups of tea around.
Edna was almost speechless when her name was called out as the winner of the award.
“It's not something you expect,” she said.
“I'm just so humbled to receive the award, but there are plenty of people out there in the community who deserve recognition as well.
“It means so much coming from your home town. I just want to thank the town of Cohuna for giving me the opportunities I've had over the years and giving me this award.”
Australia Day ambassador Christine Unsworth AM also addressed the crowd at the ceremony, speaking of her time working for the Royal Children's Hospital and as a part of the Good Friday Appeal, but also what it means to be Australian.
“Each year we get the opportunity to travel around, talk in front of communities and we can stop and reflect on what it means to be an Australian,” she said.
“We have people around the country giving their time and in some cases their lives for others, particularly now during these horrendous bushfires we're facing, and to me, that's just some of what makes this country so great.”
Leo Club members were present to raise the flag and Lions Club members cooked a barbecue breakfast for all.
Those in attendance were then able to enjoy the monthly Cohuna Farmer's market where a range of handmade and homegrown products were available.
