One of the newest residents of the community Lawrence Naglegau was invited to raise the flag before singing the National Anthem.
Once back inside, the affirmation was read before the beginning of the ceremony.
Local primary students Aroha Nanglegan, Isabella Russel, Nate Fountain, Zara McGillivray, Kendal Modra and Jordie Spitall were given awards for winning their school's poster competition.
Former year 12 students Bella Robertson and Emily Rigg spoke on their recent school trip to Cambodia where they spent time building houses for locals and immersed themselves in the country's culture.
Australia Day ambassador Don Abell was also there to address the locals as he spoke of those who make this country great.
“We have many who have been recognised today and it's not just those who have made a lot of money or are doing things Australia wide,” he said.
“There are locals here in Gunbower who volunteer their time to make this town great and today is a day to celebrate them too.”
Campaspe Shire councillor Leanne Pentreath presented a round up of what the council would be doing this year and her thoughts on the important day.
“We had a speaker last year who didn't believe we were a lucky country,” she said.
“But I disagree. Although we have battled through drought and currently horrible bushfires, but we aren't a war torn country.
“We have a lot of great people who are doing great things and that's something to be proud of.”
