The hand sanitiser, which is being locally made through a partnership between Echuca Gin Distillery, Morrisons Winery and Coburn and Reid Pharmacy, has been provided free of charge to Echuca Ambulance Service and Echuca CFA.
Lockwood Partners and Provide Insurance donated the ambulance unit with 100 100ml bottles of hand sanitiser on Friday.
Ambulance Victoria Campaspe senior team manager Joanne Kerr said paramedics were starting to get low on hand sanitiser when they got the call.
“This is fantastic news as it means each of our paramedics can have their own bottle and carry it on them at all times,” she said.
“By working together, it just shows Echuca-Moama's great community spirit at a time when people are very worried about coronavirus. It's assuring to know people are here to help.”
Moama Bakery donated 30 bottles of hand sanitiser to Echuca CFA, which captain Rob Amos said was a welcome relief.
“We had about a day or two left and were just getting by so this will definitely get us through the next few weeks at least,” he said.
“It's pretty amazing. We understand health care workers and the vulnerable need to be first on the list but we want to do everything we can to stop the spread.
“We have a rigorous routine for members when they come into the station and also when they leave because we want to make sure no-one brings it in or out."
Coburn and Reid Pharmacy also donated 5-litre refills of hand sanitiser to both emergency services.
Pharmacist Steven Reid said it was the right thing to do in worrying times.
“There are limited supplies of hand sanitiser and we need to get them to health professionals and emergency services,” he said.
Lockwood and Partners director Greg Dwyer said this was the business’ small gesture to give back to the community.
“This is one simple way we can reach out to the community and help,” he said.
“We're pleased Steve gave us this opportunity to contribute in some way.”
