“This will maximise tourism, recreation, commercial and residential opportunities. “Occurring on land adjacent to the Apex Park toilets, Cohuna Skate Park and Gunbower Creek, these works will provide visitors to this area a place to socialise and enjoy activities on the water.”Construction of a new jetty on the creek’s edge, which will provide water access for swimmers and paddlers, was recently completed.
The development of an architectural-designed barbecue shelter, inspired by the Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre, will be finished in the next week.“This barbecue area will be designed as a place for families to spend afternoons and evenings by Gunbower Creek, with its location to provide clear visibility to play areas and the creek,” Mr O’Reilly said.
Other works associated with the project – including the installation of a camp kitchen and bespoke outdoor picnic furniture, as well as the creation of new footpaths and planting of native vegetation both in the Apex Park car park and throughout this new precinct – are on track to be finished by the end of the month.“Council looks forward to the completion of stage one of the Cohuna Waterfront Project,” Mr O'Reilly said.
“Council is starting to plan the timeline of projects to benefit as part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Development, supported by a $1.7 million investment from the Victorian Government’s Building Works package.”
Stage one of the Cohuna Waterfront Project was identified as one of the major projects in the Gannawarra Waterfront Masterplan, approved by the council in 2019 following extensive community consultation.
