Held on March 1, it attracted about 400 entrants from across the state competing in seven different running and cycling events.
Hospital chief executive Ben Maw said the $12,000 donation would help surgeons and doctors save lives.
“While the presentation was slightly impacted by the current hospital visiting restrictions in place, our team was very excited to have members of the Bridge to Bridge committee come onsite and make such a generous donation towards equipment for our hospital,” she said.
“We initially identified with the committee that a specific piece of surgical equipment to help us continue undertaking endoscopic surgeries here at CDH would be what we would use the proceeds of the donation towards.
“Bowel cancer is unfortunately still a major health concern for residents here in the Gannawarra region, and the second biggest killer in this region in respect to cancer.
“This donation will undoubtedly help our surgeons and doctors here that work with us at CDH to save lives.
“Early identification and treatment is the key to a better outcome from a bowel cancer diagnosis, and it’s something we can truly say we are grateful to be able to provide to the community as part of improving health outcomes for the region.”
Staff from the Cohuna District Hospital took on roles as marshals in the bush for the trail runners, and in the first aid tent in the event village, and other locals volunteered to make the event run smoothly.
“The committee thanks them for their time, effort, skills and willingness to ensure the event was a success,” Bridge to Bridge event director Kirstin Nicholson said.
“We are very appreciative of the support from local businesses who provided sponsorship.
“This is the first year we offered the diamond package which offered naming rights to the event and was taken up by AWMA.
“Our gold sponsors were Riverine Herald, Cohuna Auto Electrical, Gannawarra Shire Council, Cohuna Waterfront Holiday Park, Gannawarra Times and Mawson’s.
“The contributions of all businesses at all levels helped make the event a success.”
