The 2021 Forty Winks Shop Local and Win promotion is back for its ninth year with $5250 to give away.
Running for three weeks to coincide with Easter and the school holidays, the promotion will see shoppers winning weekly cash handouts.
All you have to do to be in the running is make a purchase at one of 20 participating businesses, fill out a coupon and drop it in the box at the counter and you could get $250, $500 or $1000 in Shop Local gift cards, which can be used at any of the participating stores.
Forty Winks Echuca owner-manager Scott Worsnop said continuing to support the Shop Local campaign was a no-brainer.
‘‘We are strong believers in keeping as much money in the town as possible through local businesses, whether you buy a coffee, car or a new bed, every little bit helps a local family and in turn helps build a stronger community,’’ he said.
‘‘The campaign grows every year and it’s designed to reward people for shopping locally and supporting local businesses.’’
Scott said shopping local had never been more important, particularly due to businesses being hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and many having to close their doors for good.
‘‘I hope the campaign has a positive effect as there are so many businesses in Echuca-Moama that need the support of the local community now more than ever,’’ he said.
Riverine Herald advertising manager Kristy Hayes said local business was the backbone of our community.
“Supporting the local economy allows our community to grow and thrive,” she said.
“When you shop locally the money remains in town and the community benefits from that support.
‘‘It’s more than just goods and services, it also means jobs, sponsorships for clubs and community organisations and a future for our children.’’
Kristy said thousands of entries were received every year across all participating businesses.
‘‘The best part is contacting the winner to let them know they have won and hear their reaction,’’ she said.
‘‘We encourage everyone to get involved and support local business. Who knows? We could be calling you to say you’ve won $1000.’’
