Since late February, crews have worked to create a smoother, more durable road as part of the $1.75 million project to rebuild a 2km stretch of the highway.
“The Northern Hwy caters to more than 5500 vehicles per day, serving as a critical freight route between Bendigo and Echuca, along with thousands of tourists travelling to the Echuca-Moama area yearly for holidays,” Department of Transport Loddon Mallee regional director Melanie Hotton said.
“The works will deliver a safer journey for the thousands of drivers who use this road each day.”
More than $80 million in road maintenance is being delivered this season, which state Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said was supporting jobs on the ground and throughout the supply chain.
“Whether you're a local driver, a freight operator or a visitor to the region, we're making sure that northern Victoria's roads are safer, smoother and more reliable,” Mr Gepp said.Significant safety upgrades are also under way on the Midland Hwy between Shepparton and Cosgrove South.
“Aiming to reduce road trauma across the state, these crews are busy delivering improvements, including road widening, the installation of flexible roadside safety barriers, new overtaking lanes and rumble strip line marking along Pine Lodge South Rd and Kay Rd,” Ms Hotton said.
“We ask residents to please obey the road signs to ensure the safety of themselves and the workers.”
Works on the Midland Hwy are set to be completed by mid-June, weather permitting. To keep track of these projects or check out other works planned in your area, visit regionalroads.vic.gov.au
