Three months of strong business to start 2020 meant the couple were building a strong foundation for their change in lifestyle.
Then COVID-19 struck.
Eight tough months would follow, which included the first NSW-Victoria border closure.
Then, as the weather began to heat up, so did the accommodation provider’s bookings.
“December was a fantastic period for us,” Mr Peters said.
“After three good months and eight bad ones, we honestly thought we had something to look forward to.
“Five weeks of good business was what we really needed.
“The first shutdown was very difficult, but you can’t just stop, because you still have bills to pay and the facilities need to be maintained.”
And on December 31, the Peters found themselves in a nightmare situation.
The border was closing for the second time.
Instead of unpacking their bags, customers were packing in a mad rush to get back into Victoria.
“We were absolutely devastated,” Mr Peters said.
“Just when everything was looking to be on the up, we’ve been dealt another massive blow and it just didn't make sense.”
But on Monday, January 18, the Victorian Government announced the border bubble was turning green.
It means Victorians can freely travel into parts of regional NSW without needing to undergo a COVID-19 test when they return home.
“Everyone is thrilled but I'm still a little cautious about the situation,” Mr Peters said.
“I think some people have been put off by the snap decision on New Year's Eve, because it could happen again.
“We've still got some vacancies for the Australia Day weekend but I'm expecting that to change throughout the week.”
