That early spark has led to more than 60 years behind the lens, and to his first experience as an exhibiting artist in the pop-up Artbox series, set to showcase his work in Euroa this March.
Artbox began in Euroa in 2023 and, since then, the travelling outdoor exhibition space has toured local towns, showcasing professional and emerging artists while connecting communities to arts and culture.
This will be the third time Artbox has returned to Euroa, transforming a repurposed shipping container into a public art display space for all to enjoy, and Michael Flatt is next in line to share his vision with the community.
Now living in Strathbogie village, Michael’s photography focuses on the forests, farms and waterways of the tablelands.
He is drawn to subtle details, highlighting texture, shape and the quieter moments in the landscape.
“This exhibition is drawn from my favourite photos taken in Strathbogie over a period of 10 years,” Michael said.
“It aims to show the subject matter I am drawn to and my particular photographic vision. It also reflects my love of the Strathbogie tablelands.”
Strathbogie Shire Council welcomes Artbox back to Euroa, with Mayor Scott Jeffery praising the project, commenting on how the community has embraced Artbox since its first visit.
“Artbox began its journey right here in Euroa, and it’s great to see it return once again,” he said.
“This mobile gallery has become an important way for us to bring creative experiences directly to our communities.
“Michael Flatt’s exhibition beautifully captures the landscapes that make our shire so special, and I encourage everyone to take the time to explore it.”
The exhibition Strathbogie Forest and Stream by Michael Flatt will be on display at Artbox, 25 Binney St, Euroa, from March 6 to 31, with the gallery open most days from 9:30am to 3:30pm (closed Sundays) and 24-hour viewing available via the glass windows.
The exhibition brings together Michael’s favourite works — landscapes, textures and quiet moments — revealing the subjects he is most drawn to and reflecting his enduring connection to the region.
Michael Flatt brings a decade of Strathbogie landscapes to Euroa as Artbox returns, showcasing forests, farms and waterways in his first pop-up exhibition.
