Bendigo Chorale president David Wright said the choir had been performing in Bendigo since about 1957, originally known as the Benolda Singers.
The 25-member choir, comprising soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices, will present ‘Sunday Sounds’, continuing its tradition of performing in Echuca for the past six years.
Mr Wright has been involved with the group for over 40 years.
“Our musical director and conductor, Elena Varshavskaya, has worked hard to create a program that should have wide appeal to music lovers,” he said.
“The music we will perform comes from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales and will include a smorgasbord of delights, ranging from early madrigals and simple folk melodies to powerful oratorio and 12th-century composers.”
The performance will feature musical accompaniment from oboist Rebecca Begley and cellist Phil Kelymack, who will perform the Benedictus from Karl Jenkins.
A highlight will be the audience participation in singing Jerusalem by Hubert Parry.
“We will be inviting the audience to participate and expand their lungs in this wonderful work,” Mr Wright said.
“We are confident it will be an uplifting afternoon of vocal music.”
The choir is conducted by Ms Varshavskaya, who travels from Melbourne weekly and has been leading the group for over 10 years.
“She is very talented, and we have grown our technique and expertise greatly under her guidance,” Mr Wright said.
The concert will be held at Echuca Moama Uniting Church at 79 Hare St, Echuca, on Sunday, October 12, at 2pm.
Tickets are available at the door for $25.
Free parking is available in the church grounds and along Hare St.
Light refreshments will be served after the performance.
