St Mary’s Parish stepped back in time on Friday night with its fashion show, Unveiling Hidden Wardrobe Gems, which took place in the centre at St Mary’s Parish Echuca.

The event was held on March 15, with members from the community and the parish coming together to watch models showcase the best garments from yesteryear.
Organiser Margaret Hart was happy with how the event turned out and quickly gave the models credit for bringing the vintage outfits to life.
“It’s a parish fundraiser, and it’s the first time we’ve ever done anything like it,” she said.
“Overall, I am really satisfied with how it’s gone.
“The girls have modelled the clothes so beautifully, and the ambience in the hall is really fantastic; it’s been great.”

Ms Hart was delighted as a fun idea turned into an event that brought the community together to revisit a period it reflects on fondly.
“The idea came from looking at the back of the wardrobe, and I think we’ve achieved that with what we’ve seen the models come out in tonight,” she said.
“There’s a history to so many of the dresses tonight; some of the owners of the outfits are in the audience.
“Watching the models is extraordinary because you can see you’re pulling off someone’s dream.”
One of the models, Poppy Ferguson, agreed with Ms Hart and reflected on what showcasing the dresses meant to the attendees at the event.
“There is so much history in these dresses; putting them on transports me back and imagining what it was like; you almost get to live in someone else’s life for a while,” she said.
“Yeah, it’s been an amazing night; wearing these dresses is a privilege.”

Another model, Alice Waters, was initially nervous to strut the catwalk. However, she soon relaxed and enjoyed the event.
“It’s been fun,” she said.
“It was a bit nerve-racking at first, but once I did the first run, it was enjoyable.
“I love wearing the clothes; they’re beautiful, and the event is good for the community.”
Julie Moyle, one of the committee members, was thrilled with the feedback the parish had received from the event.
“We’ve had an overwhelming community response, and there are smiles on everyone’s faces,” she said.
